Mangalyaan Mission Explained:India's Mars Orbiter Mission by ISRO

 Introduction:

Mangalyaan was india's first interplanetary mission and it was launched on November 5,2013,from Satish Dhawan Space Centre using the reliable Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle(PSLV).The mission aimed to explore the surface and atmosphere of mars while testing India's capability to undertake deep-space missions.

On September 24,2014,Mangalyaan successfully entered Mars orbit,making india the first country in the world to reach mars orbit on its very first attempt.This achievement was globally celebrated and placed india alongside space giants like the United States of America,Russia and European Agency.

Objectives of the Mission:

The Mars Orbiter Mission had both technological and scientific objectives:

4).Master complex orbital maneuvers required for Mars insertion

Mangalyaan was Equipped with five scientific instruments designed to study Mars in detail:

1).Mars Colour Camera(MCC)captured some stunning images of Mars and its surroundings

2).Methane Sensor for Mars(MSM)measured methane levels in the atmosphere

3).Thermal infrared Imaging Spectrometer(TIS)studied surface temperature and composition

4).Mars Exospheric Neutral Composition Analyzer(MENCA)analyzed the upper atmosphere

5).Lyman Alpha Photometer(LAP)measured hydrogen and deuterium to study water loss



Cost-effective Engineering:

One of the most talked about aspects of Mangalyaan was its incredibly low cost.The entire mission was completely was completed at approximately 450 crores(around $74 million),making it one of the cheapest mars missions ever.

This cost efficiency was achieved through Smart mission planning,Use of existing technologies,Efficient resource management,highly skilled and dedicated team of scientists.

This mission's affordability earned it the nickname "The Frugal Mars Mission".

Instead of heading directly to mars,mangalyaan followed a fuel-efficient trajectory:

1).It first orbited Earth in increasingly elliptical paths

2).Performed a Trans-Mars Injection(TMI)maneuver

3).Traveled for about 300 days through space

4).Successfully entered Mars orbit after a critical engine burn
